Seven Things EVERY Chicken Coop Should Have!

Living the Country Life magazine, the officials glossy magazine for the 14,000-member Country Living Association (and read by 760,000 homeowners throughout the United States), just published an excellent piece on chicken coops. Anyone interested in building their own chicken coops should definitely check it out. It goes over all of the basics, including space requirements for chickens and some helpful insulation tips!

We have about 25 free-ranging chickens, and that's the problem. We can't get them to lay in the nesting boxes we built along one wall. Maybe one or two chickens do, but the rest lay in hay feeders, in the rafters (those white leghorns can FLY), and everyplace but where we want them too. Then, if we're not fast enough, the crows steal the eggs. Any ideas?

Pretty basic information but it's surprising how many people miss the basics. Thanks for providing the link to the article.

we have 4 very large chicken coops and each are built differently. We have built them to house 20-35 chickens at a time, automatic waterers, insulated for heat and cold and large feed containers. Fun project for family.

My dad just built a chicken coop for me but I'm concerned with the cement blocks he used to lift it off the ground. Any comments or suggestions would be welcome at http://chickenbokboks.blogspot.com/ and how do you subscribe to this blog???

The basic, and arguably most strategic abstract you should do prior to structure your DIY poulet henhouse is draft anaesthetic regulations. Every metropolis has it's own set of "poultry laws", any minify the product of hens you're allowed, time others hump no lessen, but instead hump exact rules active the filler or concretism of the coop.
